One thing I’ve quietly observed over the years…
is how we behave with those who are not in a position to offer us anything in return.
A waiter.
A driver.
A security guard.
There is no performance in these interactions.
No need to impress.
No visible consequence.
Just… behavior.
And yet, in these small, seemingly insignificant moments, something very real shows up.
Not status.
Not success.
But something deeper.
I’ve caught myself reflecting on this more than once.
Because respect is easy when it is expected.
It becomes meaningful when it is not required.
Over time, I’ve come to feel that the way we show up in these moments…
quietly reflects how we see ourselves.
Who are we, when there is nothing to gain?
